Our Simple Recipe for Homemade Coffee BBQ Sauce

Get creative and impress at your next BBQ with a simple and unique BBQ sauce recipe that features coffee as one of the key ingredients. We've included easy substitutes for those not-so-common ingredients, so you can use what you already have at home! Use this sauce like any other; it's fantastic for marinating meat or poultry (that's if you're not using our famous Coffee Spice Rub!).

Ingredients:
2 cups tomato sauce
1/2 cup apple cider vinegar
Juice of 1 lime
1/4 cup maple syrup OR agave nectar if you have it
3 tablespoons molasses OR 1/4 cup of brown sugar
1/4 cup brewed coffee - if you are one of those crazy Face Kicker drinkers, you have the ideal ingredient. House Blend, Organic or Flight Mode can also be used. Stay away from light roasts.
1 tablespoon of powder mustard OR hot english mustard
1/2 teaspoon liquid smoke OR 1/2 teaspoon of cumin + 1 1/2 of smoked paprika
pinch of salt
3 hot chillies OR 1/4 cup hot sauce - leave them out if you can't handle the heat
1 clove garlic
1 onion very finely chopped

Method:
In a food processor, mix vinegar with chillies, onion and garlic and process until it turns into a paste. If you don't have a food processor and don't mind the sauce being a bit chunky, chop the onion and garlic as fine as possible.

Combine all the ingredients in a medium-size saucepan, and over medium heat, bring to a boil. Reduce the heat to low and cook for 5 minutes, or until the sauce is thick and smooth.

Let it cool slightly and transfer into a container. Keep refrigerated and use within 2 or 3 weeks.

The only catch is that if you make it, you have to take a picture and post it on social media - make sure you tag Sipping Duck ;-)

Enjoy!
