More information about this blend

Perfectly balanced and highly versatile, House Blend is the signature coffee served in our cafés and by many of our wholesale partners.

As our most popular and favourite blend, it is developed for consistency and everyday drinking. The profile is robust, smooth, and well-rounded, performing equally well as espresso, black coffee, or with dairy and alternative milks, served hot or cold.

Roasted to highlight balance and approachability, House Blend offers a reliable flavour profile suited to both home brewers and busy cafés.

Brazil, Guatemala, Tanzania, PNG, and Ethiopia

Round, Balanced, and Big

Coffee is best stored in a cool and dark place, away from heat and sunlight. Ideally in an air-tight container such as an Air Scape canister.

Acidity
Acidity refers to the pleasant brightness, liveliness, or tartness felt on the sides and tip of the tongue. It's not sourness, but freshness!
LightMediumDark
Body
Body is the weight, texture, or viscosity of the coffee felt in your mouth. A high body feels thick and creamy; a low body is light and delicate.
LightMediumHeavy
Sweetness
Sweetness refers to the presence of natural sugars remaining in the coffee after roasting. It balances the acidity and often presents as caramel or honey notes.
LowMediumHigh
Roast
Roast Level indicates how long the bean was roasted. Lighter roasts retain more of the bean's original, acidic, fruity notes; darker roasts develop more chocolate and bitterness.

Blend History & Intent

Our Signature: The Founding Blend Story

This was more than just our first recipe; it was the vision of our brand in a cup. Established in 2012, our original intent was to create a blend that was truly delicious with milk, offering a full-bodied, indulgent, and robust profile that could be brewed strong while remaining incredibly smooth. I will never forget the taste of our House Blend during those first few months. Every cup was pure happiness, reinforcing that this blend was intentional, foundational, and complete. While the components have evolved over time, the blend has always maintained its core characteristics: perfect balance, immense body, and unmatched versatility. The name was a natural progression, as this profile identified the quality and commitment we wanted to build our future upon, and it still represents our past and our promise today.

Sourcing & Components

The Power of Five: Sourcing for Consistency

The original House Blend was composed by beans from Brazil, Guatemala, and Ethiopia. However, due to the natural seasonality of coffee beans, year-to-year crop changes, and the variable availability of specific origins, the blend evolved to include five distinct components, incorporating origins like Papua New Guinea (PNG) and an additional African coffee. Having five origins provides crucial wiggle room: if one origin is unavailable, we can adjust the ratio of the others without compromising the overall profile or balance.

  • Brazil delivers comfort, sweetness, and the foundational chocolate notes.
  • Guatemala adds deep chocolate and stone fruit complexity, lending a delicate but present body.
  • PNG offers sugar cane sweetness and smooth characteristics, making the blend highly approachable.
  • The African origins inject a subtle brightness, preventing the blend from being too deep and adding subtle floral and fruity characteristics.

Roasting Philosophy

Optimised for Versatility: Our Roasting Philosophy

This coffee is roasted to a Medium level, making it ideally suited for every use. Whether enjoyed hot or cold, with dairy or non-dairy milk alternatives, or brewed black, the versatility is unmatched. It can even be brewed as a strong filter coffee. Our primary objective is ensuring the House Blend never tastes bitter. It is designed to be strong and robust, but if the bitterness is out of balance, it’s a clear sign to adjust your grind size!
