The Connoisseur's Blend: Frank's Story

Created in 2015, this blend is named after Frank, a loyal customer, Cairns wine expert, and passionate Italian coffee drinker. Frank often described the House Blend as "not enough" and the Face Kicker as "too much" for his ideal Italian espresso. Instead of creating it himself, Frank would bring us his desired combinations, asking us to blend them specifically for his stovetop coffee. His personalised mix quickly gained a following among his circle, and as more people started asking for "Frank's blend," we decided to make it official and put it on the shelves. Frank's Blend is the perfect bridge for those seeking enhanced aftertaste and density in their cup, without sacrificing the clean, high quality of a medium roast.

This blend is a complex hybrid, incorporating components from our key blends—Guatemala, Brazil, Mexico, Ethiopia, Kenya, PNG, and a seasonal Single Origin—with a few unique additions. It is literally a mixed profile:

  • House Blend & Organic: Provide the full body, roundness, and balanced base flavour that defines the blend's silky texture.
  • Face Kicker Influence: Adds the necessary punch, lingering aftertaste, and enhanced bitterness that Frank was seeking.
  • Indonesia: Brings a whole new dimension, lending subtle savoury and spicy notes that round out the complexity and hint at a classic Italian profile.

Frank's Blend is a precise Medium-Dark Roast developed for discerning espresso drinkers. It is the ideal choice if you find our pure medium roasts lacking a certain depth, but you have already adjusted your grinder settings. The roasting philosophy focuses on achieving that desired aftertaste without pushing the bitterness level too high. It provides that classic "kick" for stovetop or espresso while remaining silky, rounded, and clean.
