Important Update: Price Adjustment Effective April 7th, 2025

Please take some time to read this important message. I am hoping I will never have to get this serious again.

Introduction

Due to global market pressures, we are implementing a necessary coffee price increase effective April 7th, 2025. (a quick google search will explain it all). The drama is real, and Lance and I have been under a lot of stress over the last 6-8 weeks trying to figure out how we could approach this, but the situation is completely out of our control.

New prices will be effective as of April 7th, 2025. So you still have 10 days to place an order and take advantage of the current prices.

Our commitment

We understand that price changes can be challenging, we have been losing sleep over it for almost 2 months now. Please know that this decision was made after careful consideration, many conversations with suppliers, and lots of overthinking.

We remain committed to providing you with the highest quality coffee products and service, and offering the passion we feel for good coffee.

We would hate to see any of you go to a different supplier that will eventually fold up or increase prices just as much, because truth is, our whole team needs you. All specialty and non-specialty roasters will be paying these new prices, so the pricing will increase accordingly. Australia-grown coffee is not affected at the moment, things seem quite stable here, so our Queensland coffee remains at the same price.

Context

Global coffee prices have been increasing for a long time now, but we have recently seen an abrupt increase caused by adverse weather conditions in Colombia, Brazil and Vietnam (the biggest growers) and forecasts for future crops that look even worse. In addition to poor harvests (past and future), there have been other significant increases in other variables such as sea freight and energy costs, geopolitical issues, as well as a weak Australian dollar. This crisis is affecting every business in Australia - and the world - because coffee is a commodity subject to global fluctuations.

Australian cafes have been doing it really tough for many years now, but that didn't stop any of us from providing amazing quality brewed coffee and coffee beans that sets a standard for the rest of the world. Although the prices of specialty and non-specialty coffee are very similar for you - the consumer -, quality varies greately (as you may appreciate), and most specialty cafes (I dare to say ALL in Cairns) have been underpricing for a long time. Of course this is a market expectation and everyone loves a good bargain, but the reality is, cafes are struggling because the prices being charged haven't been increasing proportinately with the costs. The pressure is across the board, and the cost of living is impacting most Australians. We get it, we are subject to it as well. We are a small family business and so are the business we supply in the region.

What are the real impacts for you, the customer?

Price per kilo will increase by $6.5 as of April 7th. Depending on how much coffee you are putting in your brewer, this could mean between 10 and 17 cents per cup of coffee.

So hurry up and stock up before then!!!

This price increase is not a percentage. We are paying between $6.30 and $7.5 extra per kilo.

Food for thought

As small businesses hesitate to increase their prices - because they are aware of the impact it has on the consumer, personal fears, and the demand forces against the bigger players -, it is also the small businesses that have the passion and drive to offer great quality products and coffee that raise the standards for the whole industry.

When you support a small business, there is a ripple effect that goes to the local communities and the future of our country. Just think about what it means to have all these small independent businesses today, and what would Australia look like without them? The coffee in this country is this amazing because it is run mostly by independent small businesses that innovate at ground level.

The industry needs your support. Specialty coffee at the current price is a real treat and it will remain possible as long as every Australian continues to support it. Big companies are charging the same for much lower quality coffee, and the profits are going... where? Supporting the big franchises and companies (wether by buying their coffee already brewed from their drive-thrus or their beans from the supermarket) will only make it harder on the small local businesses, and many will be forced to close down. The hospitality industry needs to stay independent and free, so it can continue to generate jobs and influence culture while encouragining connection between people.

Our plead to you

Stay with us through these hard times and we will continue to bring the best coffee and service we can, day after day.

Some new exciting coffees will be coming on board and our House Blend and Face Kicker will continue to shine as bright as ever!

Your sincerely,

Fiorella (Fi) and Lance
